Year 8 students at Maroochydore State High School are keen to spread joy throughout the world this Christmas. They are participating in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samitarian’s purse which aims to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged and hurting children around the globe.
Students from Year 8 classes have collected shoe boxes, covered them with brightly coloured Christmas paper and filled them with gifts for young children. The boxes will then be distributed to children who might otherwise never know the joy of opening presents. |
Operation Christmas Child organisers suggest that the boxes contain: something to love, something to play with, something to write/draw with or on, something for personal hygiene, something to eat or something to wear. The Year 8’s enjoyed going on shopping sprees to buy things like teddy bears, coloured pencils, clothes, soaps, jewellery, toys and skipping ropes.
Project organiser at the school, Mrs Elisabeth Gaedtke, said that she encouraged the students to take part in Operation Christmas Child because it is very rewarding for students to know that they can help and bless needy children overseas. Students from Year 8H have been the driving force behind the project. They commented: “It felt good to give to people who have nothing.” “It makes us realize how lucky we are to have this lifestyle.” “It gave me a good feeling to give to others.”
Congratulations Year 8’s for your thoughtfulness and caring. Your efforts will certainly be much appreciated. |
