There is a major emphasis at Maroochydore State High School on developing an in-depth understanding in the area of information technology, and computer usage, both of which are encouraged in all curriculum areas. There is a range of extension and enrichment programs involving Years 8, 9 and 10 students, which supports gifted and talented students. Extensive professional development is available to staff to achieve this goal.
The Special Education Class that provides Individualised Education Plans, modified programs and general classroom support for students with identified special needs, caters for students with ascertained disabilities. Students with learning difficulties are also supported through the school’s Special Needs Support Group.
There is an increasing emphasis on student centred learning which allows students to take greater ownership of learning, and the investigative process which facilitates more collaborative tasks and wider learning partnerships. In addition there is an on-going emphasis on developing literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum within the school.
