The Parents’ and Citizens’ Association of Maroochydore State High School has endorsed a school uniform dress code for students and this is now applied under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.
The vast majority of our students wear correct uniform every day and many of these, with a great deal of pride. There are, however, three issues which we are addressing:
1. Footwear
Occasionally, some students wear thongs (eg blisters, left shoes at a friend’s house, etc.). This simply cannot occur.
MaroochydoreStateHigh School is a registered workplace under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and, as such, students must wear fully enclosed shoes to school. If a student can’t wear a shoe for a medical reason (supported by a medical certificate) they need to wear their usual footwear on their unaffected foot and some type of covering over the affected foot; they will not be able, however, to go into any workshop/practical class. It is best, should this situation ever arise, to discuss it with a Deputy Principal or me beforehand.

Should a student arrive at school in thongs or other unsuitable footwear, for safety reasons, they will be unable to attend classes and parents will be contacted in order to arrange suitable footwear.

2. Jumpers
Just as students must wear proper uniform shirt, in cooler weather, they must also wear correct MSHS jumpers or jackets (Year 12 also have the option of the Senior jersey). To wear a non-uniform jumper or coat is a security issue and students will be asked to remove them immediately. It is imperative that students can be readily identified as Maroochydore High students and that anyone who shouldn’t be in our grounds can be identified immediately and removed.

The Uniform Shop has a large stock of school jumpers. Can I urge parents to take steps to purchase one immediately, please? If there are financial issues, please contact a Deputy Principal or me for assistance.

3. Facial Jewellery
The school prospectus and enrolment agreement clearly set out expectations regarding facial jewellery. Students need to remove any facial jewellery when at school; failure to comply will lead to appropriate consequences in accordance with the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.
I would ask for all parents’ support and cooperation with these uniform issues. Ultimately, they are geared at ensuring students’ safety and security and are simply asking students to meet standards clearly set out and signed off at enrolment.
WINTER UNIFORM…
Cooler weather is not far away and students need to be prepared for it! Students must be properly dressed in uniform at all times at school. Non – Maroochydore SHS jumpers or jackets are not permitted. If students don’t own a uniform jumper (costing $30.00 each) or jacket, they need to order one from the uniform shop / canteen immediately
MaroochydoreStateHigh School’s Winter Dress Code is fully outlined in the Student Planner / Diary and in the 2007 Prospectus including the required grey long pants for girls and boys. MSHS long pants for girls are available at the Canteen. Please note: No other colours or styles are acceptable.
For further clarification, the Uniform Convenor, Mrs Chris Vickers, can be contacted at the Canteen on 5409 7368. Please note...As per this year’s Planner/Prospectus—the winter uniform DOES NOT include tracksuits / tracksuit pants, jeans or beanies.
